Hemorrhoids and Children

By Heather-Jane Hunter

While hemorrhoids in children are less common than in adults (the vast majority of sufferers are in the age bracket from 45 " 65 years old), its not impossible for children to suffer from hemorrhoids and its definitely not unheard of. Hemorrhoids occur either internally or externally due to an increase in pressure and blood flow in veins which run alongside the anal canal. Too much pressure in the vein can cause a rupture, or clot, which swells to become a hemorrhoid. Hard stools which are produced depending on your diet and how much you exercise usually aggravate the hemorrhoids causing more inflammation and pain.

Symptoms of hemorrhoids that your child may experience include pain during bowel movement, bright red blood in and on the stools, a mound of flesh protruding from the anal canal, or if they experience an itchy and irritating anus.

The main cause of hemorrhoids in children is constipation. Constipation is reasonably common in children and therefore special care should be taken to avoid it. Constipation can be caused by dehydration, lack of fiber in your diet, and lack of exercise. As most children are highly actives, its unlikely that lack of exercise is a contributing factor to their hemorrhoids.

Children dont have the same options for hemorrhoid treatment as adults. Surgery for example is almost always out of the question " its just too harsh on children and can have long last physical and emotional effects. A lot of the time hemorrhoids in children can be treated by simply changing their diets. Make sure they have a lot of fruit and vegetables in their diets and most importantly a lot of fiber. Cereals are a great source of fiber, as are beans and lentils. Try working these into the childs diet to see effect it has.

Increasing your childs water intake is another great way to reduce the chance of hemorrhoids occurring. Fruit juice is another good option because of the vitamins and minerals they provide which help to make blood vessel walls stronger.

Always ensure that the hemorrhoid is kept clean at all times. Take special care when cleaning the area (use a soft cloth or wet toilet paper) and try bathing the child several times a day. This will be soothing and help reduce the pain caused by the hemorrhoids.

If after 5 days you have not noticed any improvements in your child after trying to implement some of the suggestions above, then its time to see a doctor or try a natural solution like H-Miracle. Many doctors will prescribe creams, ointments and lotions to treat swollen hemorrhoids. These creams will not treat the underlying cause of hemorrhoids however " they merely work to minimize the symptoms caused by the hemorrhoids.

A natural solution called H-Miracle is currently very popular amongst hemorrhoid sufferers. It has been responsible for curing thousands of sufferers and is a cheap alternative to doctor consultations (it sells for around $40). H-Miracle is a step by step guide that is backed up with a money back guarantee.
